Issey Miyake and New Balance are set to release their first collaboration, the Issey Miyake × New Balance MT10O, after its initial debut at the Issey Miyake spring/summer 2024 fashion show in Paris last October.
The project was the brainchild of Issey Miyake designer Satoshi Kondo, who was inspired by the idea of "sensuous physicality and barefoot mobility".
The collaboration is based on New Balance's MT10 trail running series, which is designed to provide the sensation of running barefoot while still offering protection and traction for off-road running.
The MT10O is part of New Balance's Minimus series, which emphasizes minimal cushioning and a close-to-ground experience. This model was first introduced in 2011 and was developed in response to the growing interest in closer to barefoot running experiences and technology, which was in line with the trend of minimalist running shoes at that time.
When it comes to the design of the collaborative MT10 sneaker, the insole features a co-branded logo that showcases the collaboration between the two brands. The upper combines lightweight, breathable mesh with supple premium leather, providing both comfort and durability. The thin cord-like shoelaces add to the sleek and minimalist design of the shoe. The vamp strap and foxing use abrasion-resistant rubber, which helps prevent wear and tear on the shoe over time.
