Shawn Marion, a four-time All-Star, was officially honored on December 15th as she joined the prestigious Phoenix Suns Ring of Honor. Her jersey now hangs proudly in the rafters of the Footprint Center. After witnessing the symbolic ascent of her No. 31 uniform, Devin Booker stepped onto the center court and bestowed upon Marion a remarkable present: his coveted Air Jordan 5 PE, a treasured artifact from his tenure with the Suns.
The Air Jordan 5 “Shawn Marion” PE is said to have only five pairs in existence. It was made for the NBA Champion before the 2006-07 season with the Suns. There are both home and away versions of the shoe. Booker chose to wear the pitch-black away pair, which features vibrant purple and orange piping, cream-colored mid-foot cages that have aged naturally, and embroidered #31s on the lateral side of each heel counter.
In a remarkable moment, the start of the event was marked by Devin Booker's presence on the court. Rather than wearing his usual vibrant orange Nike Book 1, he opted for Marion's jet-black PE during warm-ups.
Despite saving the black-nubuck pair for Marion's enshrinement, Booker eventually switched into them just before the game began. As he approached center court, he unveiled the original black and silver box, revealing Marion's radiant smile.
In 2016, PJ Tucker proudly sported the Air Jordan 5 "Shawn Marion" PE, and seven years later, Booker followed suit. Now, for the very first time since Marion received them in 2006, the rightful owner finally possesses these iconic pairs. Take a moment to appreciate a close examination of this remarkable footwear above.
