Tennis star Coco Gauff and WNBA's second overall pick Cameron Brink were competing last week. They are both young New Balance athletes. Despite their busy schedules, they managed to commend each other.
Last Tuesday, before the Los Angeles Sparks' road victory against Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever, Brink made an appearance. She wore an all-white outfit in the tunnel. This ensemble was inspired by Gauff's French Open attire.
Brink was caught on camera saying, "I'm wearing my New Balance tennis set, I want to be like Coco." The WNBA rookie paired her tennis whites with white New Balance 650 high-top sneakers.
A clip of Brink's pregame outfit reached Gauff. Last week, she moved to the fourth round of women's singles at the French Open. She will meet Elisabetta Cocciaretto there. The reporters asked Gauff about the viral clip during a post-match conference after her third-round win over Dayana Oleksandrivna.
“It was really cool. I haven’t got the chance to meet Cameron yet, but obviously been watching her a lot when she was at Stanford, and now seeing her in the WNBA is great and I definitely want to try to catch a game…I wasn’t expecting it, and it was very nice of her. I think she rocked the fit better than anybody could have…New Balance is my team, I hope they give her a signature shoe one day and I can rock it too for my press events. She’s awesome.”
- Gauff
New Balance introduced Gauff's first signature shoe, the Coco CG1, on August 22. The Coco CG1 "Gray", which Gauff is wearing at the French Open, costs $170 and is currently available. Meanwhile, Brink signed a NIL deal with New Balance in August 2023 while at Stanford. This made her the first women's basketball player for the brand.
