The Adidas Supernova Rise stands out as a versatile everyday training shoe. Its forefoot is reinforced with support rods, resulting in a smooth and efficient ride with a slight rocking motion. The midsole, made with the innovative Dreamstrike+ PEBA material, may not be the most dynamic, but it does provide a satisfactory level of energy rebound.

The only downside is its snug forefoot fit, necessitating a half-size increase. Nevertheless, this shoe is a remarkable addition to Adidas' collection of daily trainers, surpassing their previous offerings in recent years.

When seeking a reliable and long-lasting companion for your daily training, the Supernova Rise emerges as an exceptional choice. This versatile daily trainer is designed to accommodate various training routines, making it an ideal option for athletes of all levels.

If you're seeking a trainer that's exceptionally lightweight and incredibly flexible, the Supernova Rise won't meet your expectations. Similarly, if you possess wide feet, the Supernova Rise won't cater to your needs.

In 2016, I had the pleasure of experiencing the remarkable Adidas Supernova Glide 8, a daily trainer that truly stood out. This impressive shoe proved to be incredibly resilient and impressively adaptable. It became my go-to for all activities, enduring over 1000 kilometers of use.

In the years that ensued, the Supernova failed to make any significant advancements and struggled to stay ahead of its competitors. The weight of the Boost in its midsole proved to be burdensome, resulting in a lackluster and unenergetic ride. Meanwhile, Lightstrike, a rigid and unyielding foam, offered little responsiveness. Boost has long been a fundamental component in Adidas' performance lineup, even finding its place in their inaugural carbon-plated super shoe, the Adizero Pro.

The Ultraboost Light incorporates the latest foam technology, known as Light Boost. While it is indeed lighter than the previous Boost foam, it lacks the desired level of softness and energy. Regrettably, it does not seem to offer any significant enhancements over the original Boost.

This year, a long-awaited event unfolds as we welcome a Supernova that veers away from the inclusion of Boost in its midsole.

Adidas introduces Dreamstrike+, an innovative foam that boasts a PEBA foundation. Unlike most other brands, Adidas takes pride in offering trainers with midsoles crafted from PEBA, a material typically reserved for racing shoes.

Examples of training shoes that contain PEBA include The Invincible Run, Endorphin Speed, and the Kiprun KD900.

Adidas' Supernova Rise, a suitable everyday running shoe, tips the scales at a respectable 9.8 ounces (277 grams). Notably, this weight is 1.6 ounces (45 grams) lighter than its counterpart, the Solarglide 6, another neutral, mid-range option from Adidas.

The price for a mid-range daily trainer nowadays is typically around $140, which is considered average.

Adidas Supernova Rise - forefoot sole

During my initial jog, I noticed that my pace was considerably sluggish, clocking in at over 6 minutes per kilometer (9:40 per mile). At first, I was taken aback by the firmness of the run, although it remained gentler than the Novablast 4. What truly delighted me was the subtle forefoot rocker, which greatly aided in smooth transitions and an overall enjoyable experience.

The shoe provided a sense of ease when moving at a leisurely speed, yet also offered the potential for increased velocity. The support rods discreetly nestled beneath the sole granted a remarkable stability.

The socks I wore were of moderate thickness, and I noticed that the upper part of my footwear felt slightly tight, particularly around the front part of my foot. I wished I had chosen a shoe size half a size larger. Adidas shoes tend to be quite narrow, and they rarely provide options for wider feet.

The Saucony Ride 17 came to mind when I saw the shoe, but the Supernova Rise had a more grounded feel and cushioned landings. Each trainer seemed versatile enough to handle different speeds.

The primary focus of the upper on the Supernova Rise is centered around providing maximum comfort rather than emphasizing weight reduction. Its construction utilizes a sandwich mesh material that offers a pleasingly soft texture, although it may not excel in terms of breathability. The shoe ensures a secure fit around the foot, delivering overall comfort, with the exception of a slightly narrow toe box.

If I had the chance to purchase it again, I would opt for a half size larger as the forefoot and toe-box are quite narrow. While this may suit individuals with narrow feet, it may not be suitable for those with wider feet, particularly runners.

The Supernova Rise's tongue is plush and lacks gussets, yet it features a convenient loop for securing the laces, preventing any unwanted sliding. Additionally, the collar is well-padded, ensuring optimal comfort for the wearer.

Adidas Supernova Rise - sole units

The Supernova Rise is a versatile trainer that excels in various situations. While it may seem average at slower speeds, it truly comes to life when you increase the pace to a steady or faster level.

Running at a consistent pace becomes a seamless endeavor, with the sweet spot being around 4:45-5:30 minutes per kilometer (7:40-8:52 minutes per mile).

In regard to the level of comfort during rides, it falls into the category of medium softness. While it doesn't possess the same softness as the Cumulus 25 or the New Balance 1080v13, it is still softer compared to the Novablast 4, Ghost 15, and Ghost Max.

The Supernova Rise boasts a one-of-a-kind configuration. Instead of relying on rigid carbon or fiberglass rods, it features supple foam rods that offer both support and stability. This innovative design replaces Adidas' traditional Torsion/LEP system in their trainers, resulting in a remarkably seamless and organic riding experience.

Adidas Supernova Rise - quarter overlay

The thing that stands out to me the most about the Supernova Rise is its gentle rocker, which imparts a subtle sensation of leaning forward. This rocker is supported by the inclusion of rods that provide extra rigidity to the front of the shoe. Thanks to this rocker, you'll find that you exert slightly less effort whether you're going for a leisurely jog or a fast-paced run.

I recently embarked on a 35-kilometer run with the Supernova Rise, and while it may not have been the most captivating long run I've experienced, it provided a consistently comfortable experience. Remarkably, my legs felt fantastic once it was over.

Despite its 36/26 mm stack height, the stability of this product is exceptional. Surprisingly, it feels much lower than its actual measurement. I experienced no problems with instability and was able to confidently increase my speed, effortlessly maneuvering around corners.

Within the inner sole lies a pair of sizable openings in the strobel lining - one situated at the back and the other at the front. This particular attribute is an exclusive hallmark of Adidas, a practice they have adhered to for many years. By granting direct entry to the Dreamstrike+ foam, this design element enhances the cushioning beneath the heel and the forefront of the foot, resulting in a heightened sense of comfort.

I didn't particularly notice the absence of Continental rubber on the outsole of this premium Adidas trainer, and that's a good thing.

The durability of the item has proven satisfactory thus far, and I encountered no issues with traction when utilizing it shortly after a rainfall.

Adidas Supernova Rise - mudguard/outsole

The rise of the Supernova is an extraordinary event in the realm of Adidas trainers, presenting itself as a potential all-in-one solution for my training needs.

I plan on incorporating it into my routine for zone 2 & 3 runs. Despite being a first edition shoe, it exudes a remarkable level of refinement, with its only drawback being the tightness in the front part of the shoe - I would recommend going up by half a size.

Next year, there will be a version with increased stack height in both the heel and forefoot, providing a greater bounce. However, I personally would appreciate a slight increase in stack height for an even more cushioned feel.

Adidas truly impressed me with their innovative transformation of the Supernova, bringing it into the modern era. The Rise model has successfully shed the rigid nature of its predecessors, no longer resembling a heavy brick. I eagerly anticipate the exhilarating experience of running in these revamped trainers.

The Supernova Rise stands above the competition in its price range when compared to other daily trainers.
