Asics Dynablast 4 Provides Support for Heavy Runners

Dynablast 4 toebox

The Dynablast offers a fantastic everyday experience with its lightweight feel and added midsole foam, providing a subtly energetic and consistent ride. Its affordability makes it a great option for budget-conscious runners seeking a reliable daily shoe.

The economical runner seeks a versatile, durable, and comfortable daily trainer, suitable for gym sessions as well.

However, if you are a run who is seeking ample cushioning or with wider feet, then Dynablast 4 is not your suitable choice.

The Dynablast is back with its fourth version.

The Dynablast 4 remains the lower-stack-height counterpart to the Novablast, boasting slightly more foam underfoot than its predecessor, particularly targeting the ball and heel striking zones.

This enhances energy return and bounce without compromising the shoe's low stack height.

The upper features several updates aimed at enhancing breathability and overall comfort.

Dynablast 4 midsole

I had the opportunity to run in the initial version of this shoe and was eager to log some miles in this updated version to observe its evolution.

I was pleasantly surprised by the progress of the shoe and its overall performance. Upon unboxing it for the first time, I was impressed by its lightweight design.

In my experience, budget-friendly shoes often require compromises in this area, but I'm pleased to note that this isn't the case with the Dynablast 4.

I found the ride enjoyable on my initial runs, as it was both lively and consistent. I'm glad they moved away from the 12mm drop, which made them feel less cumbersome.

The Dynablast 4 offers instant comfort and the additional foam underfoot provided me with a sense of stability and protection.

Dynablast 4 upper

The primary alteration in the Dynablast 4's upper is the introduction of the Engineered woven upper. While Asics initially employed a knit upper in the shoe, which received mixed reviews, in my opinion, it was never a deal breaker.

The woven upper aims to alleviate any concerns runners may have had with a knit upper. This new design offers flexibility without sacrificing support, delivering a snug yet breathable fit.

The well-padded heel features a firm counter, offering a snug fit without any unnecessary bulk or slippage.

The Dynablast's lack of stretch to accommodate wider feet, coupled with its availability only in standard widths, may pose a challenge for runners with higher volume feet.

Dynablast 4 sole units

FlyteFoam Blast remains the standout feature of the sole unit, providing a gentle bounce, excellent shock absorption, and ensuring my foot feels supported and comfortable throughout.

Forefoot cushioning was a notable improvement from the previous version, addressing a key concern I had with the initial model.

In the 4th iteration, the midsole gains an extra 1.5 mm in height, enhancing cushioning and responsiveness throughout the shoe for a smooth ride suitable for various paces.

Moreover, this increase enhances not only comfort but also protection, rendering it ideal for long distance runnings. It also appeals to heavier runners seeking support without maximal cushioning.

The AHARPLUS rubber outsole seems less aggressive in the 4th version and slightly thinner. This likely contributed to weight reduction without compromising durability.

Traction remains dependable on paved and asphalt surfaces, even in wet conditions. However, they're not as versatile as I recall and perform adequately on well-maintained crushed gravel trails but struggle elsewhere.

Dynablast 4 side overlays

The DynaBlast remains a reliable everyday trainer, maintaining its solid performance with the fourth version.

While lacking standout features, the DynaBlast's cohesive design makes it suitable for a wide range of runners, offering a balanced and enjoyable experience.

At first glance, the Dynablast may seem unchanged, but upon closer inspection, significant evolution becomes apparent.

The thoughtful adjustments made over time have transformed the shoe into a reliable, comfortable, durable, and importantly, affordable daily trainer that I would recommend to nearly everyone.
